MEXICO CITY, June 12 – The FIFA World Cup 2026 got off to an exciting start as Group A action delivered two entertaining encounters, with hosts Mexico and Korea Republic securing important victories in their opening matches.

Mexico 2-0 South Africa

Host nation Mexico made a confident start to their World Cup campaign by defeating South Africa 2-0 at the historic Estadio Azteca in front of a packed and enthusiastic crowd.
