Penang Indian Football Association Organises State‑Wide Tamil School Football Tournament

PENANG, 14 June 2026 – The Penang Indian Football Association (PIFA) successfully hosted the Datuk P.K. Subbaiyah Cup and Tritoni Cup Football Tournament yesterday, uniting Tamil‑medium schools from across the state in a full‑day sporting gathering designed to nurture young football talent and foster harmony among students.

Jointly organised with the Jelutong Parliamentary Constituency and the Penang Tamil School Headmasters Association, the championship took place on Saturday, 13 June 2026, from 8.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. at Padang Brown, Jalan Dato Keramat, Penang. In all, 26 Tamil schools from Penang took part, fielding 26 boys’ teams and 16 girls’ teams for the competition.

The event received strong backing from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Rakan Muda, and various community and sports development agencies. It also secured sponsorship from corporate bodies and local organisations dedicated to youth empowerment and the advancement of grassroots sports.

According to PIFA President S. Prem Kumar, the tournament’s core objective is to provide a competitive platform for Tamil school students to showcase their football skills, while instilling essential values such as teamwork, discipline, fair play, and leadership.

The occasion drew students, educators, parents, and football enthusiasts from every corner of Penang, creating a lively atmosphere defined by spirited competition and active community involvement.

Meanwhile, PIFA Deputy President S. Sri Sanger noted that this initiative marks a meaningful step forward in strengthening grassroots football development within Penang’s Indian community and encouraging wider participation in sports among the younger generation.

Guided by the theme “Bersatu • Berusaha • Berjaya” — translating to “United • Strive • Succeed” — the association reaffirms its commitment to building a robust sporting culture and inspiring the next cohort of athletes.
