Anwar Ibrahim ordered the fast-tracking of affordable housing projects on vacant land near Light Rail Transit (LRT)

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the fast-tracking of affordable housing developments on vacant land near Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations to boost homeownership and increase public transport ridership.
Speaking on the initiative, Anwar directed relevant agencies to immediately identify and transform open spaces along key transit corridors—including the upcoming LRT Shah Alam Line (formerly known as the LRT3 or Klang route)—into high-density, affordable residential projects.

The Prime Minister emphasized that utilizing a transit-oriented development (TOD) approach directly addresses multiple urban challenges at once. By placing affordable homes within walking distance of major transit hubs, the government aims to help lower-income citizens secure property, drastically cut daily commuting costs, ease Klang Valley's traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions.

Anwar stressed that bureaucratic delays must be eliminated to expedite these projects, ensuring that low- and middle-income families can quickly benefit from well-connected, sustainable urban living.
