JOHOR BARU, 12 July 2026 — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide win in the Johor state election has sparked a sharp post-mortem from the Opposition, with Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) blaming Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) “arrogant” campaign for its poor showing.

Wawasan information chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal congratulated BN and said the results must be respected as the Johor electorate’s independent decision. 

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal also took aim at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the polls showed PH had prioritised political attacks over bread-and-butter issues.

“Throughout the campaign, the PH leadership, especially the Prime Minister, appeared to expend more energy attacking rivals in an arrogant manner instead of addressing the people’s real problems,” he said in a statement today.

Fear-mongering Over Substance

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said PH’s campaign relied on labelling, perception-building and fear-mongering instead of offering concrete solutions to the rising cost of living, unemployment and slow state economic growth.

He criticised PH’s over-reliance on identity politics to frighten voters.

“The rhetoric on the ‘green wave’ was repeated endlessly, as if it could replace sound arguments and policies for public welfare,” he said.

Out of Touch

The Machang MP said Johoreans had rejected a political approach that underestimated voters’ maturity.

He warned that PH’s loss of support, even in former strongholds, was a reminder that voters were judging the government’s attitude and humility.

“When leadership is seen as out of touch with the people’s concerns and more focused on managing perceptions than solving problems, public confidence will erode,” he said.

He said Wawasan would continue to assist Perikatan Nasional in improving its approach and strategy to win the hearts of voters in upcoming elections, particularly the Negeri Sembilan state polls.
