Four MPs, Academic Appointed to MACC Oversight Bodies for 2026-2029 Term

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1, 2026 — Four Members of Parliament and an academic have been appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, to serve on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) independent oversight bodies for the 2026-2029 term.

In a statement today, the MACC said the appointments involve the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) and the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR), two of the five independent oversight bodies established under the MACC Act to ensure the commission's effectiveness, transparency and accountability.

Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan has been appointed chairman of the JKMR, while Batang Lupar MP Datuk Shafizan Kepli has been reappointed for a second term as a committee member and will also serve as deputy chairman.

Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman has also been reappointed for a second term, while Wangsa Maju MP Datuk Zahir Hassan joins the committee as a new member.

Meanwhile, Enforcement, Leadership and Management University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kassim Noor Mohamed has been appointed deputy chairman of the LPPR.

According to the MACC, the JKMR advises the prime minister on corruption-related matters, reviews the commission's annual report, and examines the LPPR's assessment of the MACC's performance in accordance with the MACC Act.

The LPPR is responsible for advising the commission on anti-corruption policies and strategies, reviewing and endorsing proposals to enhance its efficiency, assessing its resource requirements, and examining the MACC's annual report before it is submitted to the JKMR.

The appointments were made on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in accordance with Sections 13 and 14 of the MACC Act.

Anwar later presented the official letter of appointment to the newly appointed members during a ceremony at Parliament, which was witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abdul Halim Aman.
