Gerakan suspends Johor committee over unilateral PRN withdrawal
JOHOR BAHRU, 27 June – Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) has suspended its Johor Liaison Committee with immediate effect after it pulled out of the 2026 Johor state election (PRN) without central leadership approval.
Secretary-General Wong Chia Zhen said the Central Committee took the action unanimously yesterday after Johor Gerakan breached party discipline and the constitution.
He said the committee viewed the move as “serious disciplinary misconduct” that undermined collective leadership and party solidarity.
“The Central Committee unanimously views Johor Gerakan’s action as a serious disciplinary misconduct that compromises the integrity and solidarity of the organisation,” Wong said in a statement.
The suspension will remain in place pending an internal investigation into the state leadership, he added.
The decision comes as a setback for Gerakan ahead of the Johor PRN and highlights internal rifts over the party’s election strategy.
Johor Gerakan has yet to respond to the suspension.
