KUALA LUMPUR 29 June – Fully imported electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to become significantly more expensive in Malaysia from 1 July. Showroom prices are projected to start from RM300,000 following the introduction of stringent new import requirements by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).

 The policy is poised to reshape the domestic EV landscape by removing affordable imported models from the mass market.

This move is designed to encourage global manufacturers to establish local assembly plant market

The new regulations dictate that imported EVs must have a minimum power output of 180 kilowatts (kW) to qualify for entry into the Malaysian market.
