JOHOR BARU 12 JULY 2026 — MCA’s bounce-back performance in the Johor state polls proves that consistent, sincere groundwork is the definitive key to winning back voter trust, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The party successfully doubled its representation from four to eight seats, a result Dr Wee described as a powerful validation of their perseverance. 

"MCA has increased its representation from four seats to eight. The results prove that if we continue serving the people with sincerity and perseverance, voters will continue to support us," Dr Wee told reporters on Saturday (July 11). 

• Voter Trust: Dr Wee thanked voters for backing both Barisan Nasional (BN) and MCA candidates.
• Bigger Majorities: The party did not just win new territory; incumbent assemblymen also expanded their winning majorities.
• The Seat Count: Unofficial tallies show MCA retained Yong Peng, Paloh, Bekok, and Pekan Nanas, while wresting Tangkak, Jementah, Johor Jaya, and Layang-Layang from the opposition. 
  

The party's upwar marks a steady recovery from its historic wipeout in the 2018 state polls. After failing to secure a single seat in 2018, MCA reclaimed four seats in 2022 before hitting its current eight-seat high-water mark. 

Dr Wee noted that winning back closely contested seats proves that years of quiet, persistent local groundwork have finally paid off.

The MCA president also credited Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s leadership for orchestrating Barisan Nasional's convincing overall victory. He praised the coalition's ability to swiftly address campaign issues and secure public confidence. 

Moving forward, Dr Wee pledged MCA's total cooperation with Onn Hafiz and the BN-led state administration to drive Johor's economic and development agenda.
