New Jersey, USA 6 JULY 2026 — Brazil’s all‑time leading goalscorer Neymar has retired from international football following his country’s shock 2‑1 defeat to Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

The 34‑year‑old confirmed the decision immediately after Brazil’s elimination at MetLife Stadium, ending a 16‑year career with the national team. “It is now over. I tried. I tried. It started here at MetLife Stadium and I finished here,” he said.

Neymar leaves the international stage with 80 goals in 129 appearances since his debut in 2010. He represented Brazil at four World Cups and two Olympic Games, winning silver in London 2012 before captaining his side to its first Olympic football gold at Rio 2016.
