SELANGOR, (29 July 2026) — Businessman Nicky Liow Soon Hee is now free from all charges, his lawyer Datuk Rajpal Singh said today.

Speaking at a press conference at the Sheraton Puchong, Rajpal said the Sosma case against Liow had been dropped by the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), while the AMLA case was discharged following full settlement of outstanding tax.

“With this, my client is free from all charges. There is no longer any case pending against him,” Rajpal told reporters.

The lawyer said the discharge followed representations made to the AGC over the past year.

He added that the tax payment of about RM400,000 to the Inland Revenue Board was part of the settlement process that led to the AMLA matter being closed.

Liow, 34, first came under scrutiny in 2021 when he and 13 others, including his two brothers, were charged under Section 130V of the Penal Code for alleged involvement in an organised crime group dubbed the “Nicky Gang”.

On 30 September 2021, the Shah Alam High Court granted them a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

The Court of Appeal later on 7 July 2022, set aside the DNAA and fully acquitted and discharged all 14 individuals.

In a separate matter, Liow was charged in April 2022 with 26 counts of money laundering involving RM36 million under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act. He had claimed trial at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

Rajpal maintained today that Liow was never part of any criminal syndicate. 

“He is just a young entrepreneur who was successful in business. The portrayal of him as head of a gang is not true,” he said.

The lawyer also noted that Liow had surrendered to Bukit Aman in 2022 to cooperate with investigations and had since complied with all requirements set by the authorities.

Press Conference Triggered By Photo Controversy

The press conference was called after Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung publicly questioned a photograph of Liow with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim taken at a public event attended by about 3,000 people.

The image showed Liow wearing an AMK shirt, prompting speculation online over political affiliation and access.

Liow said he is not and has never applied to be a member of PKR, a point already confirmed by PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh.

He explained the AMK shirt was bought at the venue through a fundraising sale and that greeting guests and taking photographs at public events was normal.

When asked what the next course of action would be against the Petaling Jaya MP, Rajpal said he would leave it to his client to decide.

Rajpal added that politicians should not be quick to judge someone before checking the facts.

“Facts must come before politics. Evidence must come before allegations. The rule of law must prevail over labels,” Liow said.
