WASHINGTON 19 Aug 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump has invoked India’s electoral framework in his renewed advocacy for more stringent voter identification requirements across the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump referenced his discussion with India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, highlighting the country’s mandatory voter ID protocols as a model. U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor strongly endorsed Trump’s remarks, noting that "646 million voters — every single one — was required to present identification in India’s most recent election."

 Gor also urged the U.S. Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, echoing Trump’s call for tighter voter eligibility and identification standards.
