Chennai, June 26 — Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay took part in the “Start Run, Stop Drugs” awareness marathon at Marina Beach today, marking the state’s observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Leading the initiative, Vijay flagged off the run, administered an anti-drug pledge, and penned the message “Sporta Edu, Drugs Vidu” (“Take up sports, give up drugs”), urging young people to embrace healthy lifestyles over substance abuse. He later joined thousands of participants in the marathon, transforming the event into a powerful show of solidarity against narcotics. 

The programme is part of the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu campaign, which blends strict enforcement against drug trafficking with prevention, rehabilitation, and public awareness drives.

Since assuming office, the Vijay-led government has intensified anti-narcotics measures by:

• Establishing dedicated task forces

• Expanding awareness programmes in schools and colleges

• Cracking down on drug networks across the state

Officials emphasized that the campaign’s goal is to foster community participation in tackling substance abuse, while encouraging youth to adopt sports and fitness as positive alternatives.

The event at Marina Beach highlighted the government’s dual approach — combining enforcement with empowerment — and underscored Vijay’s commitment to mobilizing citizens in the fight against drugs.
