🪔 Deepavali Aid Extended to 100 Eligible Indian Families in Bukit Mertajam
BUKIT MERTAJAM: 4 Nov 2026 A total of 100 Indian families from the P40 income group within the Bukit Mertajam parliamentary constituency received RM100 each recently, easing their preparations for the upcoming Deepavali celebrations.
The handover ceremony was officiated by Constituency Service Centre Manager Bernard Chin and Councillor Yoganraj Thevar representing Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament Steven Sim Chee Keong.
This annual welfare initiative underscores MP Steven Sim’s continuous commitment to ensuring that the needs of the less fortunate are met — regardless of race, religion, or background — especially as families prepare for the festive season.
Bernard Chin noted that the modest contribution is meant not only to lighten household expenses but also to ensure every family can celebrate the Festival of Lights with dignity, joy, and their loved ones.
“Deepavali is about spreading love, strengthening family ties, and fostering harmony in our community. No family should feel left behind or forgotten during such a meaningful celebration,” he said.
He added that the Bukit Mertajam MP Service Centre will remain steadfast in rolling out welfare and community programmes throughout the year. Beyond festive aid, further support — including financial assistance to help small businesses grow — will be made available to benefit the Indian community in the constituency.
